Romperland experts can help you create a play area to suit your needs and budget. Here are some common questions about getting started with your playground plan and design. For information on safety standards, industry standards, and industry-related associations, please see our Links page.

What's a playsystem design?

A configuration of components to plan a play structure that will create a wonderful informal learning environment for our kids. Playsystem designs should include challenging, physical, and social play components which keep in mind the age and abilities of the children in your community. Romperland provides 2D and 3D views of your design.

What do I need to consider in choosing a site?

Drainage, underground and overhead utilities, shade, and accessibility to the playground area are important to consider before you start planning. Other considerations such as the number of children the playground will service and level of accessibility should be considered when choosing your site. Consultation with municipal planners may provide other required guidelines to follow.

How do I choose play components for my playground?

It is important to think about what age group will be using the playground. Romperland has grouped play components into two age groups - Ages 2 to 5, and Ages 5-12. Playsystems can also be designed for ages 2-12 years. With this in mind, our play consultants will help you develop a play area design that will provide as many opportunities for play as possible within your budget.

What about our children with special needs?

Romperland Playsystems can be configured to include accessible ramps and ground-level transfer stations which will allow children of all abilities to access the playsystem. Other suitable components as well as accessible safety surfacing can be incorporated into your play space design. This provides all children with the same opportunities to engage in safe, social, and challenging play.

What are the hidden costs involved in building a play area?

Other costs to consider are site preparation, safety surfacing, borders, and installation of your equipment. It is also important to provide an area for parents, grandparents, and care givers to view and supervise children. Park benches and picnic tables are essential.
